Check out this light by the clever Nightworks Studio. I am in love. Ok well actually I am in love with the whole space. The concept was to create a beautiful bathroom in a tiny space. Not to go nuts on double basins and oversized mirrors. But to add a sense of lux through allowing space for things to breath. So just one oversized basin offset to the right, allowing the light to be the focal point on entry. A guide into the sanctuary so to speak. The table lamp. Yes it’s true, they are up there with cushions in my mind, transforming stark bright places to warm, cosy inviting rooms. The soft light adds such beauty to your home, something the old hardy downlight just cant do. So if you haven’t already embraced lamps in your life, now’s the time. And whilst this picture doesn’t demonstrate the ambience it creates at night I also love how its organic textural form contrasts so beautifully against the clean lines of the console. I feel lucky in my job to work with the most amazing clients who trust in what I do. In this case we were transforming a space that had sat unused to a place that felt welcoming and homely. A home that could be popped onto the short term rental market ideally. The home had good bones so really we just needed to add some character and a sense of calm. Create a place to retreat to. Add into the mix fresh artwork, some gorgeous textural cushions, pops of beautiful fabrics in the bedrooms and a sense of cosiness through lamps and rugs and the end result is a charming small rental that by all accounts is a winner with the guests. And the client of course. And to be fair I wouldn’t mind staying there myself, a wee get away from life. Another example of linen working its beautiful magic in this lucky teenager’s bedroom. The lovely drape of the fabric, the beautiful soft colourings and gorgeous fabric design by @hemptechnz all work together to produce a truly stunning window treatment. The final touch of the rod is a nod to the grand old villa which ensures the overall style of the home remains in tact. Although I must admit that we did have our work cut out with this room with a young creative who knew what she loved but couldn’t quite find it. However in the end I think we nailed it. Yet again it’s the detail in a space that captures my heart and this beautiful bathroom renovation is no exception. The repeating play on vertical lines in both the tiles and vanity, the warmth of the timber contrasting beautifully against the crispness of the tiles, the old world charm of the rustic brass, the contemporary black framed @joskaandsons mirror and the soft contour of the beautiful oversized basin. And let’s not forget the drop dead gorgeous design of the vanity. All elements playing a part in this stunning new bathroom. It is a tiny space that packs a punch. Here is a wee snap of the things that bring happiness to me in this space. They are simple small things yet when added together they are the things that take this space from a boring white kitchen to one that has character and love. The small addition of v grooves to some of the cabinetry adds pattern and interest. The gloss, colour and texture of the tiles from @tiledepotnz packs a personality punch to the area whilst creating a lovely focal point. And lastly but of course not least the gorgeous handmade textural goodness of the handles add a beautiful softness and warmth. A match made in heaven in my mind. There is something so lovely about creating small nooks within a home. They add a personality punch to a space whilst meeting a very real need. A place to sit in the sun, a place to ponder life, a place to slow down. In this case the nook greets you at the end of a long hallway. It offers the eye a focal point, leading you down, welcoming you in. The play on textures, art and colour all work together to support this focal point.
